I love music, and I listen for a living. Let me put my experience and passion to work for you on your next project. |
Please enjoy these samples from records I have engineered, mixed and/or produced.

I believe that you don't hear music, rather, you hear a performance of music. All those little dots on the page mean nothing until they come to life in the hands of an artist. A musician that can feel the rhythm and melody and shape it with emotion and color. The interplay of the band members. The construction, arrangement and instrumentation of a song or composition. That's what you hear when you listen to music. |

When I begin a recording project, my goal is to capture that spark, that moment when it ceases to be an idea and becomes an expression. The sessions are geared toward obtaining the best possible performance, and presenting that in a light that conveys the spirit and emotion of the music. I mix in three dimensions, with a borderline obsession for audiophile quality, and I always try to maintain the integrity and vision of the artist. | |
I think of myself as a hybrid engineer because I have worked extensively both live and in the studio, and while similar, each disclipine has its own unique challenges. I like to think that I have been able to apply the lessons learned from one to the other. Additionally, I am old enough to have had the pleasure of working in pure analog. There have been amazing advances in digital audio, and I am well versed in the ways of ProTools and the slate of amazing plug-ins and processing available. I like to use a combination of technology. I love the power and ease of digital editing and automation, and I still like to run signal through gear with big knobs and tubes. You play well, I'll help you sound great. |

JAN 2008
Nick Joyce, Brian Silver and I are beginning an overhaul of 9b Studios in Milford. In the next couple of months, we plan to install a new parquet floor in the main live room, acoustically treat the tracking rooms and control room, and bring in an entirely new tracking and mixing rig, complete with an analog console, 2-inch 24 track tape deck, and bevy of new toys. We hope to be ready for a big grand-re-opening by late March or early April. My tour dates with Ahmad Jamal will be taking on a different look as well this year. Mr. Jamal has added percussionist Manolo Badrena to the band on a permanent basis. Manolo joins the legendary jazz pianist along with drummer Idris Muhammad and bassist James Commack to round out what is arguably the hottest jazz act in the business. The tour comes to Cambridge in May, so if you live in the Boston area, and you like music, I would highly recommend you make a point to see this band in action.
